1998The Biomedical Research Alliance of New York is founded by senior leaders at Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai School of Medicine now Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, NYU School of Medicine and North Shore—Long Island Jewish Health System now Northwell Health , and St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center.
Working with the New York Academy of Medicine, these visionaries created a research alliance to attract more industry-funded research to New York.
The Alliance started with a collaborative IRB with representatives from each founding owner meeting each month.
1999BRANY’s IRB completes 151 new protocol reviews in its first year
2000BRANY pioneers the use of random on-site QA audits on behalf of the IRB to ensure compliance. This set an industry standard for independent IRBs.
2001IRBManager, an online tool for IRBs, launches
BRANY launches its Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) services to help facilitate review of recombinant DNA and gene transfer research.
2002BRANY.com launches
BRANY opens membership to other institutions
2003The Institute for Research Education launches. Initially established to provide basic training for study coordinators, the Institute for Research Education quickly grew to include preparation for certification exams, courses for principal investigators and extensive courses in human subject protection, finance and budgeting and clinical trial monitoring.
BRANY establishes its Human Subject Protection Program (HRPP)
BRANY’s Human Research Protection Program achieves PHRP accreditation
First book, Ensuring a HIPAA Compliant Informed Consent, is published.
2004BRANY increases IRB meeting frequency to weekly to expedite reviews and decrease study start-up time
2006BRANY’s Human Research Protection Program receives AAHRPP accreditation
BRANY responds to market demand and adds central IRB services for sponsors and CROs
Second book, “Working Effectively with IRBs”, is published
2007BRANY launches Research Billing Solutions.
2008BRANY introduces SMART CTMS
2009AAHRPP accreditation is renewed
BRANY moves to current headquarters in Lake Success, NY
Brian Currie named Chairman of the BRANY Management Committee
2010SMART START-60, a program that initiates clinical trials within 60 days at BRANY-certified investigator sites, launches
BRANY offers comprehensive eligibility reviews of pharmaceutical or medical device clinical trials to determine if they meet the requirements of Medicare’s clinical trial and device policies.
BRANY increases IRB meeting frequency to twice weekly to further expedite reviews and decrease study start-up time
BRANY’s Institute for Research Education launches on-line training courses
2011BRANY research sites start tracking clinical trial enrollments online via SMART
2012BRANY launches online IRB submissions
BRANY partners with Veritas IRB to provide services in US and Canada
2013BRANY named Quintiles Prime site
BRANY partners with ViS Research to streamline research feasibility
2015BRANY launches a web-based mobile solution that helps institutions and single users create better quality investigator-initiated protocols.
BRANY welcomes nationally recognized consulting firm HRP Consulting Group to the BRANY family.
2016BRANY acquires the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program (CITI), a leading provider of online research ethics education to the research community.
